Family Portraits

I first recognized the beauty of Phil's work when I saw how many of my daughter's friends had their graduation portraits done by Phil Cantor. The photographs were all stunning, and it was at that moment we decided to have a long overdue family portrait done. Phil was informative and inviting and made me feel very comfortable about getting our family (including our dog, Kenny) together for a photo shoot. I was also toying with the idea of having my mom in some of the photographs. Phil encouraged this right away, reminding me how precious those memories of grandma will be -- and of course he was right. The portrait session itself was fun and easy. There was no stress and we all felt like movie stars and models! I was awed at how wonderful our portraits looked, and thrilled that Phil was able to create such a beautiful Christmas card for us. Professional portraits are something that every family should have and I hope to be back to his studio again and again. Thanks Phil!

I have tons of pictures of my six year old, but I have always wanted some professional pictures of him. When Robert was a baby, we used to go to the mall for pictures. They were better than my shots, but there was always something that wasn’t quite great about them. When his Kindergarten pictures came home this year, I was completely unsatisfied with them. Also, I have very few pictures of myself with him, so I was excited to see if we could get any good shots of us together.

We scheduled the session and I took Robert to Mr. Cantor’s studio. I was a bit apprehensive because I couldn’t imagine how Mr. Cantor would get my energetic 6 year old to cooperate and pose for pictures. Mr. Cantor made the session fun for him. First, Robert helped him get the background ready, so right away, Robert was his helper. Of course, Robert was eager to help. When it came time to start shooting the pictures, Robert was always curious as to where Mr. Cantor would ask him to go next. Mr. Cantor was able to engage him and he coached me how to relax and not be stiff.

A few weeks later, I met Mr. Cantor in his studio to see the pictures. I expected to be looking at a computer screen. Instead, I was shown a beautiful slideshow on a big screen with background music. I was amazed at how natural the pictures looked and how much expression Robert had. Every picture had a different feel/look and it was hard to choose which pictures I wanted because they were all so good. Mr. Cantor made the task possible, however, because he had a way of grouping the photos and then picking the best ones of a bunch. His guidance in picking the pictures made the process manageable. My only problem now is how long to wait until I decide I can do this with my son again!

On the occasion of my ninth anniversary, I wandered around the house looking at the pictures of our wedding that have made their way into the fabric of our home. In the TV room sits a tiny shot of my husband and me laughing as we contemplate cutting the cake - which makes me still laugh today. In the living room, next to the fireplace, our wedding invitation is displayed with an outdoor shot of the two of us snuggling up in the cold wearing the beautiful burgundy cape my sister-in-law made me for my winter wedding. Across the room is a gorgeous shot of my sister and me, our heads together as we share the emotion of the day. It's one of my favorite pictures.

Just wanted to drop you a note and tell you how much we appreciated your work on our wedding in 2001.

Last night on our seventh anniversary we pulled out the album to show our four year old son the wedding. The pictures are great - and really took us back to that day.

But what struck me was the album itself. I know in this day and age we tend to think of photography as a fairly disposable/immediate process, with our digital cameras and the ability to send photos instantly to Grandma 2 states away.

But actually being able to pull out the album is a truly special experience. I just wanted to let you know your work on the album - from the photo selection to the layout, etc - is much appreciated. When we received our proofs from our wedding we were completely blown away. However, now we have our album and we cannot find words to describe how we feel looking through it.
